THE STORY BEHIND THE TRANSMISSION

For the record, this was a controlled experiment.

There is a version of life aboard the ship that sounds professional. It includes observations, sensible questions, and careful conclusions. This is what happens immediately before that version becomes impossible to maintain.

An airhorn becomes a declaration of war. Human candy becomes a test of character. A horror trailer produces a scientific disagreement about who screamed first. We can explain every one of these incidents. The explanations do not help.

Off the Record begins where composure ends. Sometimes we challenge each other. Sometimes Earth provides the challenge and neither of us reads the warning. Pride makes the first move; consequences tend to make the second.

We are still partners. Even when one of us is laughing too hard to be useful. Especially when the other one needs rescuing from an idea they insisted was perfectly safe.

What drew us inTrying human things turns observation into participation—with physical comedy, affectionate rivalry and the occasional very real scare.
