The mission was simple. Staying out of it wasn’t.
The instructions were clear: watch the humans, learn their patterns, and send the report home. From orbit, Earth looked like a place we could understand without becoming part of it. We had a ship, a procedure, and each other. It seemed sufficient.
Then curiosity became a decision. A decision became a visit. Suddenly there were things on Earth that knew we were there—and reasons to care about what happened next. Zek could always find a reason to take one more step. Nova could always name the risk. Neither of us expected how often we would take that step together.
We are still learning what it means to be partners. It is easy to agree on the mission when nothing has gone wrong. It is harder when following the instructions means leaving a question unanswered, or leaving someone behind.
These transmissions follow the days that changed the assignment: the mistakes, the discoveries, the small kindnesses that became difficult to explain to Command. The report records what we found on Earth. This is the story of what Earth found in us.
What drew us inA distant observation becomes a relationship. Curiosity, friendship and responsibility pull two outsiders into the world they were meant to study.
